3D Animation: Ideation

I am a little confused about this assignment, but I'm assuming we are taking the box rigs and recreating an animation sequence from a piece of animated content. At least that is what I am retaining from the instructions.  I have a couple options in mind for what I want to do for this. My top pick is a small portion of the fight between Naruto and Sasuke. I feel like a fight scene would be ideal since I've already done it once and because it is the best type of action to recreate with the boxes. 



A second option I am considering is Oogway's death scene from Kung Fu Panda. I think it wouldn't be that difficult especially with a camera, and it would be really funny to put the audio over top the interaction of two boxes. 


If I chose to do the Naruto scene, it would require a lot more effort I think and a lot more actual animation. The scene uses a LOT of exaggeration, anticipation, and some squash and stretch. I would only do it from the run up to when Naruto chops Sasuke over the head into the water. The whole animation would probably only be around 8 seconds, but there would be an insane amount of animation present in those few seconds. I'd definitely need to use a camera and the main beats would be the run up, each of the 5 gut punches, the swing upper cut kick, and then the final down blow. The most challenging part of the whole thing would definitely be just keeping the motion fluid, dealing with all the rotations, and of course finding a way to make a box look like it is punching. 

I will only do the kung fu panda scene if I can teach myself how to create a similar setting to that of the original scene. If I do I will probably do this scene. There isn't too much crazy action, and I'd mainly recreate it for comedy reasons, but there is definitely some exaggeration and squash and stretch; primarily when Oogway fades in the sakura pedals. The atmosphere would be the most difficult part to mimic, but I think it is definitely do-able. The main beats would come from the camera movements and would be when Oogway asks Shifu to believe, when Shifu says he will, Oogways saying his time will come, passing the staff, Shifu's panic, Oogway ascending, and then Shifus confusion and distraught at the end. 

The scene I choose will definitely be a game time decision and rely on how well I can craft a scene.

Final Project: Results

I have now fully completed my project. It took hours of painting, especially Kanye because his filament was black, so I had to so many layers of red to get it to look full and matte. I spent a lot of time on detailing and they both look exactly as I had imagined them to. I also threw on some mod podge to give them the full glossy look. I am super proud of what I created, I think they are at a decently professional standard.

3D Animation Class Blog Entry #1

 Hello, this is my first entry for our 3D animation class and so far the class has been pretty solid. We have only met in class once so far so we haven't accomplished much in a class setting, but outside of class we have created 2 animations. Even though the animations are very simple I have always been eager to learn how to render 3D animations so this is pretty exciting stuff and I'm proud of what I have accomplished so far. The process itself was challenging and took a while to learn, but I have a lot of experience dealing with 2D animation so the hassle of keyframes and stuff wasn't anything new. Honestly the biggest obstacle I've faced so far is just turning in my projects because the dropbox has been difficult. I know we were only expected to turn in the playblast, but I was very curious what the animation looked like rendered so I taught myself and I'm glad I did because of how the results turned out.
