3D Animation: Final Blog

The editing took a couple hours to complete, but my final animation is finished and I am very proud/satisfied with how it turned out. I know the previous blogs were a pretty could time stamp of the process of my final, but I'll still summarize the whole thing from the start. I started off by looking at what rigs/models were free and available to work with. I wanted to create a storyboard based on what characters I could use, and I knew I wanted to challenge myself beyond just cubby. I ended up finding the Kong and Irex rigs and decided to take inspiration from the 2014 King Kong movie when Kong fights off 3 dinosaurs. This allowed me to move onto the storyboard which provided a good basis for my project, however the final animation did stray away from the original idea a little bit. The next part was building my scene which honestly ended up taking up a good 1/2-3/4 of the total time I invested into this. I spent a total of 11 hours and used 12 computers to render out my animation and it was an absolute pain. The rigs kept inflating for some reason, I think because of the texture padding with the change in model size. I found out if I applied the textures, then started rendering, then cancelled the render, than re-applied all the textures, then rendered it would workout. I had to do that process a total of 16 times and then wait multiple hours, but it is rendered now.

Basically over the last few days I absolutely locked in and stayed up til around 4am every night just trying to grind through the animation. I knew my project was ambitious going into it, but this has been a very difficult process. I've been investing hours into 5 second motions, but I have a high standard for this and really want to focus on secondary animations. I am very proud for how it has turned out and I am about 95% done with the animation itself! I plan on finishing it tomorrow and then working on the rendering process. I have put way to much effort into this.
